Stuck again on this beach. Good thing I'll never get tired of these views. The weather is so dynamic here that every minute is a new spectacle - the clouds and the sun dance differently, the ocean is constantly changing.
Last night we talked as an entire group about goals and expectations. It was cool to hear exactly why people chose to be here at this time in their lives. It it truly amazing how common sentiments can bring together and unite a group of people in such a beautiful and wild place like Patagonia. Last night was also one of the most spectacular sunsets I have ever seen - individual sun beams poked through the clouds and illuminated the restless ocean. The mountains across the channel were a mix of purple and gold. Jack and I stayed up late, watching the sunset, sipping hot coco, and talking about life. We were being gently spattered with raindrops from the approaching storm so we headed up the hill to our tents. Another wonderful night of being rocked to sleep by the whispers of the rain on the tent.
Awoke to yet another soggy and windy day. No traveling today. During breakfast Adam accidentally stabbed his leg with a knife while trying to cut through a chunk of baking chocolate. An injury like this calls for an immediate evacuation. Thank god for the terrible infrastructure in Tortel - Adam couldn't get to a doctor soon enough so he gets to stay in the field with us! The NOLS branch said that our instructors could administer the same level of care in the field that he would receive from a doctor in Tortel or Cochrane so it wasn't worth sending him out. I was so glad to have him stay; I don't think our group was ready to say goodbye to yet another team member.
